Part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property, the Coal Mines Historic Site comprises 214 hectares of bush with scattered ruins from early settlers and convicts.
The site is fairly spread out with signs and paths to the ruins of the officers quarters, barracks, offices and cells with views of the water and the surrounding area.
Take a picnic and water with you and allow at least a few hours to stroll around the site and take in the tranquil setting.
The Coal Mines Historic Site is half an hours drive from Port Arthur Motor Inn and has free entry.
